Step-by-Step: How We Clean Your DPF
Not all DPF cleaning is the same. While some garages use basic sprays or forced regens, we take a proper, workshop-based approach that fully restores flow through the filter core. Whether you visit us or send your DPF by post, here’s exactly what happens during a full clean.
1. Initial Inspection
We start by inspecting the filter for signs of damage, oil contamination, or melted internals. If there’s anything that would prevent a proper clean — like a broken core or blocked temperature sensor — we’ll contact you before proceeding.
We check the substrate, ports, and mounting surfaces for soot, ash, and potential structural failure.
2. Flow Testing Before the Clean
Next, we test the filter using calibrated pressure tools to measure how restricted the flow is. This gives us a before-clean benchmark and helps spot filters that are too far gone. Most filters arrive between 80–98% blocked.
These tests are documented and printed for your records. Learn more about this on our off-car DPF cleaning page.
3. Heated Flush Cycle
We connect the DPF to our high-pressure flushing machine and run it through a series of heated cycles. This breaks down hardened soot and flushes it from the filter channels. Our system uses no caustic chemicals, just heat, volume and direction-controlled water flow.
4. Drying Process
Once the DPF is flushed, we blow dry it using high-volume air and heat. This prevents moisture from sitting in the core, which could trigger faults once the filter is reinstalled. A fully dry filter also gives us an accurate post-clean test result.
5. Final Flow Test
We test the filter again using the same equipment as before. The goal is simple — return the DPF to within 5–10% of its factory airflow level. Most cleaned filters come back between 90–95% clear, with some nearly 100% restored.
These post-clean figures are printed or shared digitally and included with your clean.
6. Visual Check and Return
Finally, we inspect the filter for residue, drying marks, or missed soot. Ports are plugged, packaging is secured, and the unit is prepared for collection or return delivery.
All on-car cleans include ECU data logs. All postal jobs include tracked return and test results in the box.
We Do It Right — Not Rushed
We don’t do mobile work or quick spray cleans. Every filter goes through the full process above. It’s how we’ve built trust with garages, taxi firms, and diesel drivers across the UK.
