How to Package Your DPF Safely for Postal Cleaning
Sending your diesel particulate filter by post is a convenient way to get it properly cleaned — but only if it arrives safely. Because DPFs are heavy, awkwardly shaped and often full of soot, it’s important to package them correctly before shipping.
Here’s our guide to safe, secure packaging that helps prevent damage and delays.
1. Let the Filter Cool Fully
If you’ve just removed the DPF, allow it to cool to room temperature before wrapping. Hot filters can warp plastic, soften cardboard, or cause moisture to build up inside the package.
2. Plug All Openings
Use strong tape, thick rubber caps, or plastic film to cover all inlet and outlet ports. This stops loose soot from spilling into the packaging — and avoids mess or health risks to couriers.
Do not use foam or paper stuffing inside the DPF body, as this can be hard to remove and may burn during cleaning.
3. Wrap with Bubble Wrap or Cardboard
Wrap the entire filter in multiple layers of bubble wrap or thick corrugated cardboard. Make sure no metal or hard edges are exposed. The better the cushion, the less chance of cracking or impact damage during transit.
Filters that aren’t wrapped properly may also damage the outer box and be returned to sender by the courier.
4. Choose a Strong, Double-Walled Box
DPFs are heavy — a single-wall box won’t cut it. Use a double-walled cardboard box rated for 15–25kg loads. Avoid boxes that have already been damaged or used for liquids or wet items.
Pick a box size that gives 3–5 cm of space around the wrapped filter for extra padding.
5. Add Labels and Info Inside
Always include a note inside your box with the following:
- ✅ Your name
- ✅ Mobile number
- ✅ Return delivery address
- ✅ Vehicle reg and make/model
If possible, write your name and reg on the outside of the box too, in case the paperwork gets separated.
6. Send It Tracked and Insured
Use a tracked courier service and keep the tracking number safe. You are responsible for the DPF until it arrives at our garage. Most parcels arrive next day, but we recommend allowing up to 2 working days during peak periods.
We suggest ParcelForce, DPD or Royal Mail Parcels for good value and reliability. Add insurance if you want extra cover.
7. Address to:
